An Experiment of Death: Necromancy in the Grimoire Tradition

January 4, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

The grimoire revival of the early 21st Century has given us accurate, modern translations of many grimoires that originated in the medieval and renaissance periods. This information is at our fingertips via online sources and the convenience of Amazon.com. But how do we make use of these texts? How do the different grimoires relate to each other on the topic of necromantic spellwork and how do we approach this tradition of summoning spirits of the dead? In this class we will look at a selection of grimoires and the necromancy within them. We will problem solve through common barriers of implementation, discussing the nuances of fidelity and innovation. This class is designed for the serious student looking to dive deeper into traditional European magic as it pertains to necromancy.
