The immune system plays a primary role of combating attacks on the body. As the body’s central defense mechanism, it has to accurately recognize and respond to the differences between the foreign and the self. Join
Nathaniel Drake, RC’s in-house community herbalist, in an evening of interactive herbal medicine making and learning the importance of nature’s medicinal power for seasonal threats. Dive into the energetics of the immune system, specifically as it pertains to plant medicine and immune defense subject matter, through the standpoint of the herbalist. Experience how to support our immune system with herbal remedies and nutritional recipes including: herbs for immunity, herbs for defending against bacteria and viruses, and herbs for preventative care. Learn the warning signs of potentially serious conditions, while also highlighting what you can do to tone the body’s own natural defenses in the meantime. This class is for beginner and curious herbal minds, but all are welcome, as it is purely intended to ensure a knowledge of what you can make for your very own winter’s medicine cabinet, including the classics of elderberry syrup and herbal fire cider. No supplies or materials necessary.

Nathaniel Drake is a queer/non-binary artist and herbalist whose interest in herbalism arose out of immutable gratitude for the healing quality of the natural world. From earliest memories spent outdoors with the many beautiful sticks, and stones, herbs, mosses, and multifarious mycological mysteries with whom we coexist, curiosity bloomed all the more when presented with the prospect of interning at a local apothecary throughout most of high school. It was there where Nathaniel encountered some of their earliest mentors, learned the basics, and started accumulating knowledge regarding the medicinal and spiritual qualities of the ecosphere. Linking deep passions from within those early elemental mysteries of adolescence. Following graduation, Nathaniel journeyed to Ireland to attend an apprenticeship intensive in spiritual herbalism before briefly relocating to NYC to continue their educational pursuits in the healing arts. Nathaniel believes there is great importance in sharing and providing to the community directly the expanse of plant knowledge available, while also perpetuating deep respect for the many cultural traditions from which our closest of herbal allies originated. Outside of work, you’ll find Nathaniel alone in the woods, growing and wildcrafting, formulating remedies, journaling, making art, or simply seated by the fire with their cats and a good book, always devoted to furthering their study and practice.
