For at least a millennia, astrologers and mages have been associating
fragrant materials with the 7 classical planets. From Agrippa’s
suffumigations, to the botanical correlations in The Picatrix, scented
plants have held a sacred place in this esoteric study of the microcosm
and the macrocosm. Join herbalist Janine Hagal of Black Earth Botanica,
who illuminates the topic through her own work in astrological perfumery
and the flora of the zodiac. Teaching from both traditional texts and
first hand associations in over a decade of experience, you’ll leave
with indispensable knowledge to incorporate into your own practice.
Please bring a notepad, and a mask. Sample vials of scent will be handed
out individually.

Janine is Black Earth Botanica; an esoteric online shop specializing in ritual anointing oils and other botanical creations. Her fragrances are made for every day or ceremonial use, and draw inspiration from astrology, elemental magic, and other pagan observances. She only works with all natural materials, with an emphasis on essential oils and ethically harvested plant tinctures that create an intersection of herbalism, magic and art. She currently resides in Oakland, California but was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ.
