*IN PERSON OFFERING* PRINCIPLES OF CHAOS MAGIC: PART I

This course is an introduction to the principles of chaos magic and invites practitioners of all paths and traditions, including folks new to magic. The course will be a hybrid of instruction and experiential exercises. We’ll begin by examining the work of English surrealist artist Austin Osman Spare (1886-1956) through contemporary chaos magicians Peter Carroll, Ray Sherwin, and Phil Hine. Concepts from Spare’s The Book of Pleasure, including the construction and transmission process of sigilisation, guided visualisation to access the subconscious realm, the “death posture”, and working in conjunction with the lunar cycle will be discussed and practiced. Attendees are asked to bring materials to write/draw sigils, and a handheld mirror or scrying glass (if available).

John Moletress (they/them) is a queer-identified artist, educator and witch. With a background in performance art, sound technologies, social justice, and somatic psychotherapy, they practice witchcraft through a somatic and trauma-informed lens. Current embodied research practices involve the construction of sound environments and digital instruments for use in ritual and sigil magick, which you will find on Instagram at kraftwitch.
