Do you find yourself wanting more calm clarity, grounded authenticity, or ecstatic presence? Are your thoughts plagued by obsessive resentment or shame that you seem powerless to stop? Does your life seem to be dramatic and chaotic despite your magical practice, or are the results of your magic inconsistent or ungrounded? There is a reason every tradition on earth has used meditation techniques to train the mind. In this two-week course, you will be given everything you need to develop a meditation practice that is not limited to the meditation cushion but is invited to saturate every aspect of your life – and magick – with presence. We will explore common pitfalls and misunderstandings (hint – you don’t need to “stop thinking”), the five layers of the self, the use of Divine Names to purify and consecrate our breath, mind, and subtle body, and finally make a guided journey into the mirror of the heart. Novices and adepts welcome, much of this material is original (informed by my own practice, experience, and lineage) and all practitioners will get something out of it.
This class will be ADHD friendly – many of the practices will be influenced by Sufi meditation which is more active and dynamic than forms most westerners are familiar with. These work great for people who feel that they “can’t meditate.” All levels of experience, beliefs, and backgrounds welcome – options for Celtic, Greek (Dionysian), and Christian Mystic divine names will be given. My own background includes initiation into a Sufi Order, a Druidic Order, an undergraduate degree from the Buddhist Naropa University in Contemplative Psychology, seven years of disciplined meditation practice, and three years’ experience teaching meditation and mindfulness to young people experiencing homelessness. This will be a two-week course, with the first class devoted to the what, how, and why of meditation, and the second devoted to experiential practice in various forms of meditation.

OUTLINE
Week One (theory) –
My lineage, background, and training. Some words on the word God in mysticism.
What meditation isn’t – intro to spiritual materialism and bypassing. Don’t learn, listen.
Why meditate? Reality doesn’t change perception does, which is the same thing. Hubble telescope analogy – to get a better picture, you don’t need to get a better / more expensive lens you need to stabilize the telescope. Farmer on the fence story. Snake on the path story. Taking out the trash story. Discussion of the nature of mind, intro to manifestation and magic (impressions).
How to meditate – the point is not staying the point is returning. Consistency drives the practice deeper. If you meditate on a cow, become the cow.
What most people think of as meditation – “mindfulness meditation” is Tibetan Shamatha-Vipassana. Brief instruction.
Week Two (Practice) –
Working with Divine Names – the soul, heart-mind, and body are sheathes, coverings, masks, costumes, or clothing worn by the breath, which is as a ray emanating from the sun of God. The breath is God, there is no break in continuity. Keep the string of the breath tied to kite of the Divine Name. (Introduce Christian, Greek, and Celtic Names). Well metaphor – breath is the rope, Name is the bucket, water is God. Tasting (dhawk) and drinking (sharb).
Breath practice – Divine Names placed on inhale and exhale.
Walking practice – divine names, breath, and steps joined.
Five layers of self –Angelic / Celestial, Jinn / Fae / Elemental, Human / Breath, Animal / Terrestrial / Bodily, Demonic / Cthonic.
Divine Names practice with the five levels – based on Pir Vilayat Inayat-Khan’s Dhikr of Self-Acceptance.
Guided journey into the Chamber of the Sphynx – through the hall of evolution into the gallery of the Major Arcana into the Mirror of the Fool, finally meeting the mirror of the heart. Initiation into mirror of the heart meditation (based on Al-Ghazali’s teachings and Tarot mythology).

Connor Khalil Marvin is a poet, teacher, and occult scholar living in Lafayette, CO. They are an initiate of a Kabbalistic-Sufi order and a Druidic order, hold an undergraduate degree in Contemplative Psychology from Naropa University with a minor in Yoga Studies, and are working on completing a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner certification. They currently work as a House Witch at Ritualcravt, read Tarot professionally, and create planetary talismans for clients. Their magical practice is informed heavily by Hermetic Qabbalah as well as Renaissance angelology, planetary magic, and geomancy. They taught meditation and poetry to young people experiencing homelessness in Denver for almost three years, and have taught online classes on magic and divination. They believe that mysticism is the apex of magic and magic is the apex of mysticism.
