Botanical magic is central to many traditions of craft, sorcery, and spirituality. From the mediæval convent with its walled garden of plants used in healing and physick to the conjure woman’s flowerbeds of powerful herbs hiding in plain sight, the garden is a meeting place for humans, plants, animals, and spirits alike.

From creating protective herb beds to cultivating plants for spiritual cleansing, from baleful poisons to sweet flowers to potent roots and their many applications, this class marries the practical and mystical aspects of gardening within the Hoodoo tradition. No prior gardening or Rootwork knowledge required—just a willingness to cultivate both your garden and your understanding of the magical world around you.

Hailing from a long line of gardeners, presenter Phoebe Hildegard draws on her experience with several forms of practical and historical magic while centering on the Rootwork & Southern Conjure she studies as an apprentice to old-time worker Professor Charles Porterfield.

Phoebe Hildegard Finch is a traditionally trained conjurer, card reader, and writer.
{Originally brought to earth after a series of baleful magical experiments,} she currently resides in Denton, Texas as the live-in apprentice of Professor Charles Porterfield. A lifelong herbalist, her work with plants is the loamy heart of her craft, anchoring the arcane in the physical.
