Working with Shadows: Allies for Pregnancy Loss

Miscarriage & abortion affects so many, yet it is not talked about nearly enough. Instead both are met with stigma and silence. In this lecture-style class we will first discuss the physiology of miscarriage & abortion, and the differences between the options provided in clinical abortions. We will explore the shadow side & deepen into aftercare and creating ritual, using nutrition & herbal allies. Participants will leave with handouts & resources around this topic.

Bonnie McIntosh is a Full Spectrum Doula, herbalist, and nutritionist. She studied at the Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism, where she completed their Clinical Herbalist, Nutritionist, & Flower Essence programs. She taught the reproductive health & urinary system classes upon graduation, and worked at Rebecca’s Apothecary in Boulder as a community herbalist for several years. In her personal practice as a full spectrum doula, she has worked as pregnancy loss doula, and a birth doula at Denver Health Medical Center, focusing on working with underserved communities. She was one of the core members of the Colorado Doula Project for 5 years, a non-profit based in the Denver area providing emotional & logistical abortion-doula support to anyone that requests it. Bonnie’s dream has been to pursue midwifery, so that she may utilize her passions for reproductive health, herbalism, and nutrition in a way that supports a larger audience.
