SUMMARY:{IN PERSON & VIRTUAL HYBRID} Astroherbalism: Planetary and Personal Herbal Medicine

The class will take place at the storefront and will also be streamed on Zoom. \nClass fees are non transferable\, we stick to the student agreements agreed upon during registration. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \nHerbalism was not always the empirical vocation we know today – it has deep roots in a variety of complex magical and mythological contexts\, many of which incorporated the discipline of astrology. Our herbalist ancestors practiced with a worldview that was distinctly enchanted\, giving credit to celestial bodies and beings for guiding their own healing. The works of Paracelsus\, Ibn Sina\, Hildegard von Bingen\, and Culpepper all demonstrate this clear alignment of plant medicine to astrology. How can we honor this lineage by continuing to meaningfully incorporate astrology into our modern herbal practice in the West?  \nWe will dive into the works of these practitioners and others to engage with the basic principles of astroherbalism and medical astrology\, with the goal of emerging with an operational framework for how to apply this knowledge in our own work with plants. This class is suitable for herbal practitioners\, astrologers\, or students in either of these disciplines\, at any level. It will include a mini-practicum in which we dive into a chart example together to consider a health complaint. \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nIsabel Gareau (they/them) is a Tarot reader\, astrologer\, and Clinical Herbalist currently residing on traditional and unceded territories of Ute\, Cheyenne\, and Arapahoe Peoples in so-called Denver\, Colorado. They have been studying the esoteric arts for the past 12 years\, offering readings\, herbal care\, and classes to members of the community for the past seven. Isabel has been one of Ritualcravt’s resident practitioners since 2024\, and is a recent graduate from the Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism. Isabel also possesses a Bachelor’s of Science in Phytochemistry from Cornell University\, and has studied astrology with mentors such as Austin Coppock\, Demetra George\, and Pallas K. Augustine. Isabel’s primary focus is in astrologically-timed herbal medicine techniques\, decan-focused practice of astrology and Tarot\, and a holistic\, nervous system-centered approach to wellness.

They have a strong awareness of the crossroads between astrology\, cartomancy\, and elemental practices. You’ll note that Reese embraces their queer\, intersectional identities both when teaching and when reading. \nReese has been a reader at Ritualcravt for over four years and has studied with well-known witches like Lindsay Mack and Pam Grossman\, as well as respected local teachers in Denver. In 2021-2022\, they completed an apprenticeship with best-selling author and reader of 20+ years\, Stefanie Caponi.
