How can folk practitioners and witches interact with and petition these beings that are well-known for being Catholic? How does Saint magic interact with folk magic that is syncretized with Catholicism\, and can folks who aren’t Catholic even work with Saints? \nJoin Frankie Castanea for this virtual conversation into Saints as holy beings\, energetic signatures\, faces for earlier entities\, and their role in Italian-American and other folk magics. We will discuss who the Saints are\, how and why to approach as non Catholics\, separating Catholicism from the Church\, folk Catholicism as a method of folk magic\, and what Saints to petition and when. \nThis class is perfect for those who have some hesitation around folk Catholicism and Saint magic\, those interested in beginning to explore Saint work in their practice\, and those looking for practical\, folk-magic-centric ways of petitioning the Saints. We will talk further about utilizing Christian methods of talking to Saints\, but also methods that stem from folk magic and folk Catholicism\, beginning to incorporate Saints into your practice\, and more. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nFrankie Castanea\, also known as Chaotic Witch Aunt\, is a practicing folk witch\, animist\, Italian American folk practitioner\, and spirit worker.  They have been on a journey of reconnection to culture and ancestral practices for almost five years now\, a practicing witch and diviner for almost a decade. Within this\, they have found a passion for learning and teaching Italian-American ways of being\, animism\, ancestors\, and spirit relationships. They have and continue to be a student of Lisa Fazio and Mary Beth Bonfiglio\, and have\, in the past\, learned from Austin Toney of Cat and Cauldron. They learn from being in community with other Italian-Americans and folk practitioners\, their own spirits\, and are driven by their ancestors in almost all things they do\, sharing their ways of reconnection and reconstruction via Instagram\, Youtube\, Patreon and their blog\, Chaotic Folk Magic\, through their website (chaoticwitchaunt.com). They run a small online shop of ancestral and folk magic guided wares\, believes in the power of the color red\, and reads tarot\, Italian playing cards\, and offers professional spell consultations at Ritualcravt in Wheat Ridge\, Colorado. They are the author of two books\, “Spells for Change” (2021)\, and their upcoming book “Ancestral Magic” (2025).

You’ll note that Reese embraces their queer\, intersectional identities when both teaching and reading. \nReese has been a reader at Ritualcravt for over two years and has studied with well-known witches like Lindsay Mack and Pam Grossman and well-respected teachers locally in Denver. These two companion films present unlikely heroic characters—children—who become the moral and symbolic center of the force that fights the oppressor\, breaking open the mundane world and imbuing it with the power of magic\, vanquishing evil. Though their mortal lives are tragically ephemeral\, these children heroically teach us about the immense power of magic in triumphing over the forces of darkness. Join me for a deep dive into these two films\, discovering deeper symbolism and meaning\, appreciating how del Toro affirms how formidable magic is in the face of forces that wish to dehumanize and subjugate us. These magical realist films are thus sources of inspiration for us through these dark times\, reminding us of the value of our own magic. And if time permits\, I’d love to have a discussion on the many ways we can connect with our own magical power to help ourselves and each other fight the power of authoritarianism. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. She is the author of Beyond His Dark Materials\, the editor of Fairy Tales Reimagined\, and co-editor of The Artemis Archetype in Popular Culture. There will be great emphasis on Midsommar\, the high holiday of summer\, and I will share the history\, magic\, medicine\, folklore and rituals of this holy day past and present. We will discuss ways to utilize these Scandinavian ancestral traditions in modern ways on the lands we live on today. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nMissy Johanna Rhysing is a Swedish-American woman who grew up in the Swedish diaspora in Minnesota\, and is the owner and founder of Ritualcravt in Colorado. Her people hail from Scandinavia\, Bohemia/Czech Republic\, France and England. She places great importance on working with our ancestral root cultures as a means of reweaving folk magic and traditions to improve our lives and our relationships with the lands we live on today.\n\nMissy’s trainings include Trolldom\, Nordic spirituality and animism\, Swedish massage\, past life regression\, meditation\, shiatsu\, tattooing\, folk herbal and nutritional support\, and more. She facilitates community sauna ceremonies and is passionate about sauna culture. Missy has been offered the name Mästerinna as a lineage teacher in Trolldom\, and holds that close to her heart with great honor. She carries immense gratitude for her mentors\, spirit council\, and peers for the doors that have been opened to her and the blessings she has received.
