In this series\, we will explore the zodiac alongside the houses based on the traditional whole sign house system. This particular transit carries an exaggerated weight\, as Saturn is also co-present with Neptune in the sign of the ram. Things may feel both burdensome and thrilling\, like the offering of a great reset but with an unfathomable amount of work attached to it. How do we make the most of that reset\, maintain our momentum\, and rise to this occasion?  \nThis workshop will review Saturn’s current transit in Aries through a relational astrology lens\, identifying the planet’s archetypal powers\, potential challenges\, and key dates for turning points of its present expression. We will examine this through the manifestation of Saturn in Aries within our own charts\, using some guided journaling and reflecting exercises\, as well as somatic movement practices. For some of us who love to read and watch stories in this genre\, we feel called to create our own visions of beautiful darkness. To bring these tales to the surface\, we will ground ourselves in the origins and prominent voices of Gothic literature before diving into the bones of the Gothic story\, examining the most evocative locations and atmospheres\, the symbolic objects laden with the weight of memory\, and the monsters whose wounded pasts affect the way they reveal themselves in the present.  \nInspired by the work of Guillermo del Toro in films like The Devil’s Backbone and Crimson Peak\, we will learn how to create a story where the setting lives and breathes\, the objects speak\, and the monsters both terrify and provoke empathy. We will also cover elements of craft—point of view\, tense\, color palette\, and the storytelling philosophy of Edgar Allan Poe—that will help you craft the architecture of your tale. You’ll leave class with a copy of The Cabinet of Curiosities\, which includes the frameworks\, key references\, and prompts that you can return to after our time concludes. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. Our herbalist ancestors practiced with a worldview that was distinctly enchanted\, giving credit to celestial bodies and beings for guiding their own healing. The works of Paracelsus\, Ibn Sina\, Hildegard von Bingen\, and Culpepper all demonstrate this clear alignment of plant medicine to astrology. How can we honor this lineage by continuing to meaningfully incorporate astrology into our modern herbal practice in the West?  \nWe will dive into the works of these practitioners and others to engage with the basic principles of astroherbalism and medical astrology\, with the goal of emerging with an operational framework for how to apply this knowledge in our own work with plants. Registration closes one hour prior to class starting. \n  \nThe “witch wound” is a term used to describe the inherited trauma caused by the generational persecution\, marginalization and oppression of those who identified as witches. Some believe that this kind of persecution in a past life can be carried into our current lifetime and show up for us now in things like being unable to step into our power\, fear around being silenced or judged\, not being able to speak our truth\, and more. \nWe will move backwards through time in a guided meditation to explore a previous lifetime in which the witch wound is currently affecting us. Through exploring our previous lives\, we can move towards healing\, reclaiming\, and releasing in our current life. We can gather new understandings of patterns and behaviors\, reclaim gifts and strengths\, and even end commitments made in past lives that are no longer serving us. \nWe will begin with a brief discussion\, move into the meditation\, and end with a bit of processing and discussion. This meditation is best suited for people experienced with this work and with guided meditation.\nCome with an open mind\, a quiet space in your home to do this work\, a notebook and pen to journal after the meditation. Dress comfortably! \n  \n\nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \n\n\nMissy Johanna Rhysing is a Swedish-American woman who grew up in the Swedish diaspora in Minnesota\, and is the founder of Ritualcravt in Colorado. Her people hail from Scandinavia\, Bohemia/Czech Republic\, France and England. She places great importance on working with our ancestral root cultures as a means of reweaving folk magic and traditions to improve our lives and our relationships with the lands we live on today.\n\nMissy’s trainings include Trolldom\, Nordic spirituality and animism\, Swedish massage\, past life regression\, meditation\, shiatsu\, tattooing\, folk herbal and nutritional support\, and more. The blue bottles in the yard high in the trees\, the haint blue porch ceilings\, and the Man at the Crossroads\, bringing to life the rich folklore that is in the South of the United States. In this class\, we will be discussing the folklore associated with the southern part of the country\, where these myths and spirits originated from\, and how to combat them if necessary. This class will equip each student with a knowledge of how to work the land in which these creatures dwell\, and how to defend oneself magically if need be.  \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nGabriel Varzalyi-Lopez is a biracial Virginia-born folk practitioner\, a devotee to his ancestors\, spirits of nature\, and the God and Goddess of his mother and father. He is a seer\, diviner\, spiritual medium\, and conjurer trained in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans. While being dedicated to his spiritual work for over a decade\, while also assisting the community in his legal profession through his daily life\, Gabriel sees the balance that both the spiritual world and material world have in the progression of someone’s life. Born from a lineage of witches\, orthodox priests\, farmers\, artists\, and at times rebellious characters\, he understands the process by which messages are received from Spirit\, allowing for a different type of magical work to occur. Gabriel is also a writer for Witches Magazine under his mundane alias\, an independent magazine based in the United Kingdom. An adventurous spirit\, Gabriel feels and hears the call of spirit through winding southern brooks and on high mountain peaks\, observing the simple magics that each of us cherishes in our everyday lives.

Yet many of us are unsure where to begin or whether our story is worth telling. It is. The magical story of your path to the craft\, whether you were raised in ritual or came to your practice later in life\, carries so much meaning that it is worth the time and effort to put pen to paper. A wonderful addition to your Book of Shadows\, the memoir story is something that anyone can learn\, regardless of background or expertise.  \nYou will learn the basics of writing a memoir story first\, then we will move into writing specifically for witches. This process will help you excavate and name your identity\, because memoir writing can help you discover and claim who you truly are as a practitioner. I'll be discussing lots of different approaches\, providing you with a generous list of writing prompts\, and asking you some reflective questions during class that will help you begin to formulate ideas about what parts of your journey are most forefront in your mind\, for those are the places that bear the ripest fruit. You will leave class with confidence that you\, too\, can write your own witch's path story\, and you will have a list of self-generated ideas to begin this meaningful work. \nClass comes with: pdf of notes\, approaches\, and prompts\, delivered after the class ends\, plus the opportunity to send your completed story to the instructor by email for one round of supportive feedback after you've written it. All stories shared with the instructor will remain in total confidence.\n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. She is the author of Beyond His Dark Materials\, the editor of Fairy Tales Reimagined\, and co-editor of The Artemis Archetype in Popular Culture. The Series Editor of Tales from Fiddler’s Green\, she also occasionally publishes creative fiction. She is currently studying the Bardic Course in Druidry from OBOD. She maintains Mellie’s Grove\, a certified NWF backyard wildlife habitat that is home to a rescued and small stabilized cat family and all manner of wildlife.
