In this class\, we will learn about the three main branches of tasseomancy\, and at the end\, we will hold a practicum on how to do a tea leaf reading! We will be diving into the deep and rich history of the modalities of the natural world\, along with learning the mystical component that comes from Spirit itself in these types of readings. Although I am jumping a little ahead in the season by offering this class in January\, I think we need a breath of hope: Persephone is needed now more than ever. \nPersephone\, the dual-natured goddess\, represents both the innocent maiden and the experienced queen of the underworld. Her archetype is often connected with those who have undergone trauma and found a way to rise above it\, becoming stronger and more resilient. But sometimes we are triggered into the realization of how our innocence has been irrevocably harmed\, and our wounds\, though healed over\, still reside deep within us. Through them we can be dragged back into periods of overwhelming anxiety and depression. \nWhat I would like to offer is a way to make those two sometimes dueling sides of our natures meet and collaborate to make us whole. I want to help you cultivate a way to connect with that innocent maiden side and find its enormous power so that being pulled away from your tough-as-nails dark goddess of the underworld energy doesn’t break you down\, but instead re-invigorates you. \nIn this class\, I’ll cover aspects of the dual natures of the Persephone archetype\, apply that knowledge and understanding to our own experiences of lost innocence and cultivated experience\, and suggest ways we can reframe our connections with our “pre-trauma” selves that will empower us. Suggestions for Persephone-specific rituals and altar offerings will also be given. Having just completed a program in integrative somatic trauma therapy\, I will also provide some breathwork and visualization exercises. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nSusan Redington Bobby is a practicing witch and the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, where she is an online teacher\, an editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing. She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. They may take the form of apparitions\, creatures or phenomena. In this class we will look at the spiritual frameworks that have led to our understanding of yokai\, how they have evolved through Japanese history leading up to pop culture depictions\, the different types of yokai and protective superstitions. This class will include elements of storytelling to complement the lecture. It is recommended\, but not mandatory to have taken Daily Japanese Animism & Majutsu as a primer for this class. \nAkemi Tsutsui-Kunitake is a visual artist\, karate-ka and creator of Live Deliciously. Based in Denver\, her work is informed by her identity as a third and fourth-generation (sansei-han and yonsei)\, mixed-race Japanese American. Her artwork blends themes of Japanese folklore with Western mysticism. She is inspired by the intersectionality of cultural tradition\, ancestral wisdom and modern identity. She is a lifelong student of Shotokan karate-do under the instruction of her father\, Isao Gary Tsutsui\, at Colorado Budokan.\nAkemi has also been fortunate to train with masters of other karate styles in California\, Hawaii and Japan. As karate embodies so many elements that are integral to the Japanese American experience\, she describes karate as her ethnic and spiritual identity in motion. With a formal education in Ethnic Studies\, Akemi has worked in the fields of culturally specific education\, advocacy and holistic health. She has continued her studies through courses on Japanese energetic healing\, Shinto\, deep ancestral work and radical community care. Akemi is a frequent collaborator with the Japanese Arts Network as a Cultural Consultant and artistic partner.

Her people hail from Scandinavia\, Bohemia/Czech Republic\, France and England. She places great importance on honoring and reclaiming our root cultures as a means of remembering {especially for Americans}\, reweaving\, and practicing the olde ways of our ancestors for magical and healing purposes.\nMissy’s trainings include Swedish massage\, soul parts retrieval\, a variety of spellwork services and divination methods\, trolldom\, meditation\, past life work\, shiatsu\, ritual tattooing and art\, and folk herbal and nutritional support.
