In this guided meditation we will journey backwards in time and through the world tree of the Nordic people to recover gifts\, understand attachments\, reclaim strengths\, or release contracts that are not serving us in our lives today. We will go through the meditation and end with a bit of processing and discussion. No experience necessary\, dress comfortably and have a quiet space to enjoy this work at home. \nMissy Johanna Rhysing is an American woman practicing Nordic folk traditions in Denver\, CO and Mpls\, MN. Her people hail from Scandinavia\, Bohemia/Czech Republic\, France and England. She places great importance on working with our ancestral root cultures as a means of reclaiming and reweaving folk magic and medicine to improve our lives and our relationships with the lands we live on today.\nMissy’s trainings include Trolldom\, Nordic spirituality and animism\, Swedish massage\, past life regression\, meditation\, shiatsu\, tattooing\, folk herbal and nutritional support\, and more. They may take the form of apparitions\, creatures or phenomena. In this class we will look at the spiritual frameworks that have led to our understanding of yokai\, how they have evolved through Japanese history leading up to pop culture depictions\, the different types of yokai and protective superstitions. This class will include elements of storytelling to complement the lecture. It is recommended\, but not mandatory to have taken Daily Japanese Animism & Majutsu as a primer for this class. \nAkemi Tsutsui-Kunitake is a visual artist\, karate-ka and creator of Live Deliciously. Based in Denver\, her work is informed by her identity as a third and fourth-generation (sansei-han and yonsei)\, mixed-race Japanese American. Her artwork blends themes of Japanese folklore with Western mysticism. She is inspired by the intersectionality of cultural tradition\, ancestral wisdom and modern identity. She is a lifelong student of Shotokan karate-do under the instruction of her father\, Isao Gary Tsutsui\, at Colorado Budokan.\nAkemi has also been fortunate to train with masters of other karate styles in California\, Hawaii and Japan. As karate embodies so many elements that are integral to the Japanese American experience\, she describes karate as her ethnic and spiritual identity in motion. With a formal education in Ethnic Studies\, Akemi has worked in the fields of culturally specific education\, advocacy and holistic health. She has continued her studies through courses on Japanese energetic healing\, Shinto\, deep ancestral work and radical community care. Akemi is a frequent collaborator with the Japanese Arts Network as a Cultural Consultant and artistic partner.

In this class I will give a presentation on sauna culture- the history\, rituals\, practices\, healing techniques\, folklore and more. I will discuss ways in which we can utilize this tradition in our modern lives\, as well as sharing my personal sauna rituals in the hopes of inspiring folks to remember and reweave these practices in beneficial ways on the lands we live on today. \nMissy Johanna Rhysing\nMissy Johanna Rhysing is an American woman practicing traditional Nordic folk spirituality and magic on lands currently known as Denver\, Colorado and Minneapolis\, Minnesota. Her people hail from Scandinavia\, Bohemia/Czech Republic\, France and England. She places great importance on honoring and reclaiming our root cultures as a means of remembering {especially for Americans}\, reweaving\, and practicing the olde ways of our ancestors for magical and healing purposes.\nMissy’s trainings include Swedish massage\, soul parts retrieval\, a variety of spellwork services and divination methods\, trolldom\, meditation\, past life work\, shiatsu\, ritual tattooing and art\, and folk herbal and nutritional support.
