Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nUsing the framework of Hanafuda playing cards\, we will look at various botanicals and their spiritual and historical significance in Japanese culture.  The class will include a history of Hanafuda and how it used in different games today.  Each suit in the deck represents a month and is assigned a seasonal botanical.  In this first class we will look at the first quarter of the year: January – pine\, February – plum\, March – cherry.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own Hanafuda decks if they already own one\, but possession of a deck is not required for the class\, as the content will be primarily focused on symbolism. If time allows\, during the informal discussion session that follows the structured content\, attendees are welcome to play cards.\n\nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nAkemi is a Nikkei storyteller\, writer\, teacher and visual/experiential creative.  She has familial roots in Taiji-cho\, Wakayama-ken\, the neighborhood of Asakusa in Tōkyō-to and Terminal Island. Truly this set of tales would not be as powerful were it not for such a cast of varied supporting characters from the natural world. This class offers a new appreciation for every petal\, every leaf\, and every stem\, captured in both words and images. We will go over several prominent animals and their magical and spiritual associations through the lens of our common folk ancestors of Scandinavia\, both as animal energies and as materia for spells and spirituality. We will also discuss Fylgias\, or animal spirits\, and we will go through a procedure to discover a personal Fylgia- one that you can continue to develop a relationship with long after class is over. \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nMissy Johanna Rhysing is an American woman practicing Nordic folk traditions in Denver\, CO and Mpls\, MN. It’s a wonderful way to make magic a way of life. \nIn this in-person workshop\, Sterling Moon will introduce participants to the magic of floorwashes. Floorwashes are essentially spells for changing the energy of a space\, dispelling what’s unwanted\, or calling in what’s  desirable. The spell is “activated” through the mundane activity of mopping and wiping down commonly used spaces. They are a staple in many folk magic traditions. \nSterling will guide participants through making their own blends\, beyond throwing a bunch of herbs and curios together. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nPersephone\, Goddess of Flowers and Queen of the Underworld\, reminds us to embrace the endless cycle of life and death. As we depart the darkest part of the year\, we look forward to new growth\, blossoms\, and the light that Spring brings to us. This new life is not possible without the inevitability of death\, decay\, and the resulting recycling of natural materials. \nLikewise\, cicadas follow a similar rhythm. Eggs of the cicada are laid beneath tree bark and the young hatchlings fall to the ground and burrow beneath the earth. Depending on the species\, cicada nymphs will lay beneath the soil for weeks to years\, until they finally emerge in large quantities to molt into adulthood\, mate\, and continue the cycle. This journey to the underworld\, and an existence of dormancy is a natural reflection of Persephone’s journey between Hades and the world of the living. \nThis class will discuss the beneficial cycle of life and death and how it relates to the myth of Persephone. We will touch on the fascinating mystery cult of Eleusis\, and tie these themes to the life cycle of cicadas. There are many beautiful lessons to learn from this chthonic journey and its important role in helping us accept the reality of death and decay. \nEach ticket also includes a small shadow box\, a cicada specimen\, some dried flowers\, and a brief instruction on how to create a devotional art piece to Persephone. \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nJess is a Denver-based artist who creates small sculptures and jewelry using elements of nature.\nJess creates imaginative miniature worlds honoring elements of nature and science. These sculptures contain magic in the form of preserved insects\, bones\, stones\, moss\, and plants. Yet the Norse Lore tells a different story. It is one that continues after the collapse and turns toward survival and renewal. \nIn this class we explore the forgotten continuation of the Ragnarök story by examining: \n\n\nHow the myth describes the fall of old orders and the emergence of a new world. \n\n\nWho survives the cataclysm\, and why do these particular beings remain? \n\n\nWhat qualities allow them to endure when the structures of the old world have failed? \n\n\nThe session concludes with a guided ritual inspired to connect with the survivors of Ragnarök. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nIn my lineage of Trolldom\, the folk magic of Scandinavia\, one of the ways in which we cast spells is by making trollpåsar\, or a magical pouches. Join me live at Ritualcravt for an evening of casting spells for the Spring season! Please come with some ideas of what you would like to grow or cultivate more of in your life during Spring. \nWe will have a short lecture on traditional trollpåsar\, discuss materials to be used for the magical bags\, and learn how to cast spells with them. All students will make atleast one bag to bring home. \nAll materials will be provided! \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nMissy Johanna Rhysing is a Swedish-American woman who grew up in the Swedish diaspora in Minnesota\, and is the owner and founder of Ritualcravt in Colorado. Her people hail from Scandinavia\, Bohemia/Czech Republic\, France and England. She places great importance on working with our ancestral root cultures as a means of reweaving folk magic and traditions to improve our lives and our relationships with the lands we live on today. \nMissy’s trainings include Trolldom\, Nordic spirituality and animism\, Swedish massage\, past life regression\, meditation\, shiatsu\, tattooing\, folk herbal and nutritional support\, and more. She facilitates community sauna ceremonies and is passionate about sauna culture. In this session\, we will explore practical methods for protecting spaces and clearing unwanted or stagnant energies\, helping you create environments that feel balanced\, safe\, and spiritually supportive. \nFollowing the teaching\, we will move into two guided exercises that help you develop the awareness and skills needed to stabilize and strengthen the energetic environments around you. These practices are designed to help you feel more confident in maintaining spaces that support clear thinking\, emotional steadiness\, and healthy spiritual interaction. \nWe will conclude the evening with a spirit communication session connecting with the Whisperers and other spirits\, offering participants a deeper perspective on how these practices affect our interaction with the spirit world. \nEach month we explore a different aspect of the paranormal through teaching\, guided practice\, and direct experiences. SUMMARY:{IN PERSON} Hanafuda Through the Seasons\, Quarter 2: Wisteria\, Iris\, Peony

Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nUsing the framework of Hanafuda playing cards\, we will look at various botanicals and their spiritual and historical significance in Japanese culture.  The class will include a history of Hanafuda and how it used in different games today.  Each suit in the deck represents a month and is assigned a seasonal botanical.  In this class\, we will look at the second quarter of the year: April – wisteria\, May – iris\, June – peony.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own Hanafuda decks if they already own one\, but possession of a deck is not required for the class\, as the content will be primarily focused on symbolism. If time allows\, during the informal discussion session that follows the structured content\, attendees are welcome to play cards.\n\nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nAkemi is a Nikkei storyteller\, writer\, teacher and visual/experiential creative. She has familial roots in Taiji-cho\, Wakayama-ken\, the neighborhood of Asakusa in Tōkyō-to and Terminal Island. She is the founder of Little Well Studio\, an atelier driven by the principles of preservation\, healing and education.  Her work actively nurtures traditions and stories through the visual/creative arts\, embodiment practices and engagement.  Akemi’s artistic and spiritual path is deeply informed by her upbringing within the Japanese cultural art of karate-do from the age of three and her experience as a kata athlete.  She describes karate-do as her ethnic and spiritual identity in motion\, at the intersection of tradition\, ancestral wisdom and modern identity.  Akemi views ancestral work as a living\, breathing relationship with those who have come before and traditions as a way to dialogue with the past.\n\nhttp://littlewellstudio.com/
