I will share a keynote lecture on the Autumntide\, with important timings\, holy days\, and ancestral practices that we can observe in the diaspora. We will go over folk magic and more with emphasis on the Ancestors as we near the end of the autumn and move closer to wintertide. We will discuss modern ways to utilize these practices on the lands we live on today. \nMissy Johanna Rhysing is an American woman practicing Nordic folk traditions in Denver\, CO and Mpls\, MN. Her people hail from Scandinavia\, Bohemia/Czech Republic\, France and England. She places great importance on working with our ancestral root cultures as a means of reclaiming and reweaving folk magic and medicine to improve our lives and our relationships with the lands we live on today.\nMissy’s trainings include Trolldom\, Nordic spirituality and animism\, Swedish massage\, past life regression\, meditation\, shiatsu\, tattooing\, folk herbal and nutritional support\, and more. Spirits who dwell in a set location can be powerful allies\, even the ones who initially present as scary or “bad.” While each situation is unique\, you will learn how addressing spirit activity in a physical location in a calm and patient manner generally yields better results than trying to immediately evict resident spirits. Students will learn how to assess the source of a haunting and the different types of hauntings one may encounter. Steps one can take to calm down a haunted space will be offered\, as will some options for when a sterner approach is required. Lastly\, Sterling will share folk remedies and recipes that have worked for her and her clients over the years. I will show you a few ways to incorporate your favorite garden plants into your cocktail menu to show off for your friends and family. Herbs are amazing as medicine\, but they’re also full of important flavors that bring life to the libations we so enjoy.\nYou will learn the process behind creating different elements of a cocktail. You will have the opportunity to make your own custom bitters formulation (traditional bitters are alcohol based\, however you will have the option to make yours alcoholic or non!)\, as well as a simple syrup kit to make at home!\nI will be sampling a cocktail or two for you to sip on during class! \n  \nMamie Trotter is the herbalist behind Herbal Riot- a small herbal business located in Denver. In this enchanting class\, we will explore some evocative spell-poems by Anne Sexton and a captivating story by a powerful sorceress by Tanith Lee. Together\, we will break down the meaning and techniques of these works\, and you’ll learn how to craft your own poem or story inspired by these spellbinding stories. This workshop is designed to boost your confidence in describing the elements that define you as witch/enchanter/spellcaster/mystic/practitioners of magic\, however you define yourself\, and is inclusive to all genders. You will leave class with a first draft of a poem and/or a plot for a short tale that you can then continue to write on your own. The class comes with a bonus\, which is a one-hour zoom call with me (or you can choose e-mail) to send me your work when it is finished so I can read it and tell you how fabulous your skills are and identify your biggest strengths as a writer.
