Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nThis class will begin with a look at Saint Expedite from a historical basis\, i.e.\, what we know vs. what we don’t really know and where there is variation from tradition to tradition. There will be brief coverage of the various related traditions worldwide and how Expedite is called and utilized before we move on to the traditions most familiar within the United States as they relate to hoodoo\, conjure\, the deep south\, and to a lesser extent Appalachia. Attention will be paid\, of course\, to the decidedly Christian origins of Saint Expedite\, though students will be encouraged to see beyond that limitation. Care will be placed to limit the amount of Christianity used\, where appropriate\, in an effort to encourage those who might avoid the power of the Saints due to trauma surrounding organized religion\, abuse\, and the church’s misuse of sacred power. This will set the foundation for the practicum\, where students will learn about altars\, offerings\, statues and prayer cards\, incense\, oils\, candles\, prayers\, devotions\, novenas\, spells\, talismans\, and the materia magicka associated with Saint Expedite. This two hour workshop aims to deliver the student not only the information needed to begin to work with Saint Expedite but the confidence to approach him immediately and begin a beneficial magickal relationship as soon as they get home! Each student will receive a dressed and blessed Saint Expedite prayer card to begin that relationship. \nWelburn Hiram Kemp hails from the dark and bloody ground of Eastern Kentucky. A born Appalachian\, Welburn was steeped in folklore\, folk magick\, and is from a long line of preachers and healers who brought old time remedies\, wisdom through religion\, and powerful magick holler to holler for nearly 200 years. Welburn honed his craft and expanded his studies living in the Deep South\, studying herbs & roots and conjure in New Orleans and places even beyond that. A student of magick\, in general\, Welburn blends ceremonial magick\, conjure\, and the folk magick of his people in Appalachia into a unique amalgamation that produces a wide array of oils\, powders\, amulets\, talismans\, and charms. Welburn is now bringing his love of the work to the fore and taking on an even greater mission of teaching and passing on the knowledge and lore he has so painstakingly learned over the years. These writers’ perspectives often clashed with religious authorities even as they moved in tandem with proto-scientific investigations of the natural world. \nThis class will celebrate the forgotten history of the Natural Magic texts which form the backbone of witchcraft and magical thought today\, and introduce the broad strokes of several thinkers of the past around the Natural Magic concept\, along with providing many threads for further exploration by the curious. \nOn a practical\, hands-on level\, this class will investigate the connections between organic magical materials and their spirits\, as well as the ways magic practitioners interact within the interconnected web of beings that make up our world in order to weave the stories they wish to create. \n“The soul is a breath of living spirit that permeates the entire body to give it life. In truth\, spiders are a beautiful and integral part of our ecosystem. They also have a deep and complex mythological history. Learning more about their behavior\, life cycles\, and ecological impact can help us learn about our own place in this world and how to weave their energetic messages into our daily lives. \nJoin two passionate arachnid enthusiasts (Alessandra Dzuba of Oracle Natural Science\, and Jess Ellis of Atropos Curios) for an evening of Spider Magic. This class will include a short lecture and a hands-on tutorial\, all supplies will be provided. \nWe will discuss the biology and ecology of spiders\, as well as their spiritual symbolism and what we can learn from them energetically. How does their life cycle work and why should we observe it? \nWe will answer many of the biological and behavioral questions about this creature as well as discussing the mythology and spiritual nature of these beautiful insects. Spring\, as we emerge into the warmer portion of the year\, is a perfect time to discuss cicadas. From the countryside of England and Scotland to even the palaces of sheiks in the Middle East\, to even having emperors of Rome in Italy fascinated \, Tasseomany has been a form of divination that has captured the attention of and minds of each person exposed to such an art. In this class\, we will dive into the history of tasseomancy through tea leaf readings\, coffee grounds\, and wine sediments\, and at the end\, even try our hands at learning how to do tea leaf readings! For the class\, please bring a tea cup and your favorite type of loose-leaf tea. \nGabriel Varzal is a tarot reader\, medium\, and generational practitioner. Learning at a very young age from his grandmother\, Gabriel understood the importance of the ancestors and the spirits of the land and sea. It overlaps many other disciplines\, all expressed here though art. Specifically\, this is art that delivers practical information wrapping in a sensory visual experience. As we craft an ever-stronger working alliance with the cards\, magic happens.\nWe’ll begin with thorough orientations:\n—the Minor Arcana via the elements (Week 1)\n—the Court Cards for identity and connection (Week 2)\n—the Major Arcana with myths and archetypes (Week 3)\nand then take this material into\n—alliance-deepening personal work (Week 4)\n—reading the Tarot for yourself and for others\, and for maximum personal creativity and well-being (Week 5). \nThis series is for beginners and beyond. Please allow a minimum of two hours every week for take-home assignments between class sessions. \nPlease bring:\n— Note-taking materials\n— A fully illustrated\, “scenic” tarot deck\, i.e. instead of simply seeing three Cups\, you’ll see people/beings interacting with the three Cups. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \n“Join Death Doula & Midwife Carla Torres for an evening of Death Contemplation! \nThe Contemplation of Death is Traditional Practice of looking deeply and symptomatically into the nature of Death – physically & spiritually and into our own personal relationship with it. \nDeath Contemplation opens us up to the reality of Death in a very personal and intimate level. Death plays a part of our everyday lives and our existence depends on it. Death Contemplation helps us become aware it\, relate to it and accept and honor it in our lives while we still have it. \nIn this class\, Carla will take you through a physical and spiritual journey of your own living death by way of a traditional Ritual Death Washing\, Shrouding and being “Laid In Honor” through a hold departed Death Meditation. \nYou will leave with a deeper understand of what it means to be alive with an inspired appreciation for your life!” \nCarla is a Witch\, End of Life Coach & Death Doula\, she has been practicing magick since she was 18 years old and is an initiate of COTW Coven here in Colorado. Carla received both her End of Life Coaching & Death Doula certifications through her course work with the Conscious Dying Institute in Boulder\, Colorado. Carla is passionate about the Death Positive movement and is an advocate of normalizing death and mortality in everyday life. She hopes to bring death back to its scared place in the community through her death work services and discussions. Carla’s strengths in the death work field are being able to approach this part of life with a radical presence of non-judgment\, love and a bold vulnerability. Carla is a end of life care volunteer for Hospice and is currently working towards a Home Funeral Guide certification. When Carla is not hosting death related discussions\, helping families plan for a good death or sitting vigil\, she can be found talking to her house plants or rolling around in laughter with her two daughters. \n
