This is a time of profound emotional alchemy—where we shed old layers\, confront hidden truths\, and reconnect with the wisdom of our ancestors\, guides\, and deities. \nUsing a technique passed down by Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone\, this guided journey will lead you through the gates of the Underworld\, where you will meet those who hold insights for you. We begin by activating the energetic body\, grounding deeply\, and setting our intentions before stepping into the liminal space of deep transformation. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nAbby Jane Palmer: I am a 4th-generation bodyworker who has been practicing massage\, shiatsu\, and energy work since graduating from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy in 2001. I hold a BA in Psychology and am a certified life coach. My bodywork offerings include prenatal massage\, integrative techniques\, and shiatsu\, with certifications in modalities such as Swedish\, Neuromuscular\, Zen Shiatsu\, Craniosacral\, Maya Abdominal Massage\, and Quantum Shiatsu. In 2022\, I completed additional abdominal massage training to support clients with menstruation\, digestive\, urinary\, and reproductive concerns. \nMy energy work and readings focus on self-care\, embodiment\, and connection to your highest self\, incorporating runes\, tarot and oracle cards. I apprenticed with Johannes Björn Gårdbäck in Nordic Folk Magic and offer combination sessions blending bodywork\, energy healing\, and readings. \nMy practice\, Green Room Healing Arts\, is located on South Broadway in Denver\, and I also provide virtual offerings. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nGrief is a thread woven into the fabric of our lives\, coexisting with the cycles of nature.\nJoin Carla Torres-Davis\, Death Doula + Midwife & Resse Quinn\, Tarot Reader + Astrologer for an evening of weaving our collective and communal Grief of a loved one – no matter how recent or long ago – in a community setting. During our time together\, we will honor the lives of those who are dear to us but no longer with us in intentional activities that thread the layers and cycles of Grief that are still very present within us. \nSpring is a time of rebirth and new beginnings\, but for those grieving\, this can feel like a harsh reminder of the loss we are still carrying. It’s important to allow ourselves to experience the change of seasons at our own pace\, finding comfort in both the sorrow and the growth that spring brings. This gathering offers a healing and safe space to witness and be witnessed in our own and each other’s collective Grief around the loss of a special person in our lives. All stories\, death circumstances\, and genuine human feelings are welcomed and invited! \nThere will be a Tarot Ritual and an acknowledgment of the energy of the Full Moon in Scorpio to open our gathering. Additionally\, we will build a communal Grief Altar during our time together\, so please come with a picture or memento of a loved one you would like to honor. If you do not have any mementos\, we will provide paper upon which to write their name(s). \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTORS: \nReese Quinn (she/they) is a tarot and astrology reader and what they lovingly call a practical witch. They have a strong awareness of the crossroads between astrology\, cartomancy\, and elemental practices. You’ll note that Reese embraces their queer\, intersectional identities when both teaching and reading. Reese has been a reader at Ritualcravt for over two years and has studied with well-known witches like Lindsay Mack and Pam Grossman and well-respected teachers locally in Denver. In 2021-2022\, they completed an apprenticeship with best-selling author and reader of 20+ years\, Stefanie Caponi. Their writing is available via the Moon Void Tarot website and they have additional works forthcoming. (@western.moon.witch) \nCarla is a Witch\, End of Life Coach & Death Doula\, she has been practicing magick since she was 18 years old and is an initiate of COTW Coven here in Colorado. Carla received both her End of Life Coaching & Death Doula certifications through her course work with the Conscious Dying Institute in Boulder\, Colorado. Carla is passionate about the Death Positive movement and is an advocate of normalizing death and mortality in everyday life. She hopes to bring death back to its sacred place in the community through her death work services and discussions. Carla’s strengths in the death work field are being able to approach this part of life with a radical presence of non-judgment\, love and a bold vulnerability. Carla is a end of life care volunteer for Hospice and is currently working towards a Home Funeral Guide certification. When Carla is not hosting death related discussions\, helping families plan for a good death or sitting vigil\, she can be found talking to her house plants or rolling around in laughter with her two daughters.

And\, it was surprising to see how clearly plants communicate their needs\, if we only shift our awareness of them in this way. \nCarla’s understanding of caring for plants went from a basic watering and lighting technique to a more holistic\, well rounded and relational\, care system of physical and energetic plant mothering. We will discuss fibers and plant pigments before diving into a variety of plants and design options. Using the bundle dye method\, we will steam and infuse botanicals into our bandanas. No experience is necessary\, all students receive 1 cotton bandana along with guidance and many flowers\, pigment rich plants\, and modifiers to create your own unique pattern. Students will take home their finished bandanas at the end of class. \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nLeah\, of Round Trip Goods\, is a slow fashion designer and artist working with natural dyes and upcycled cotton.  She loves sharing her knowledge and passion for plant dyes and sustainable textiles with others through community building\, teaching\, art\, and fashion.

Registration closes one hour prior to class starting. \n  \nIn times of such upheaval in the world\, we need anchors and the feeling of being grounded to the ancient world. Trees are one such conduit by which we may feel connection and interdependence. Furthermore\, whether they are grand old trees at the center of a forest or a tree newly sprouted\, watered by the tears of its gardener\, trees hold a magical place in fairy tales. In addition\, when we feel lost and confused\, or fearful and anxious\, trees may be asked to be our protectors and protectresses. This lecture will bring trees and fairy tales together in an exploration of several classic fairy tales from different eras\, authors\, and parts of the world\, that center on trees as protectors and guardians. Some attention will be given to scientific research about the sentience of trees and their behavior\, which will show that what we may think of as fairy-tale magic when it comes to trees may actually be scientifically based. My hope for the class is that you will look at trees with newfound knowledge and appreciation for the way they ground and watch over us. I’d love for you to be inspired by this class to make connections with trees in your world\, on your land\, on walks or hikes you take\, to name them\, to form relationships\, and perhaps even to cultivate growth of new trees. Who knows\, maybe you’ll even be inspired to write your own fairy tale incorporating trees! \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. She is the author of Beyond His Dark Materials\, the editor of Fairy Tales Reimagined\, and co-editor of The Artemis Archetype in Popular Culture. The Series Editor of Tales from Fiddler’s Green\, she also occasionally publishes creative fiction. She is currently studying the Bardic Course in Druidry from OBOD. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nHave you ever picked up an item and gotten a sense of the stories behind it? \nPsychometry involves receiving psychic impressions about an object\, person\, place\, or event by physically handling an item associated with them. The first hour of the circle will include basic information about the process\, the psychic senses that make psychometry possible\, and preparation for hands-on practice. The second hour will be spent in practice\, handling available items and seeing what impressions we get\, including if what we get can be verified. However\, this isn’t so much as “right and wrong” as it is about practice and having fun! \nThere will be a variety of items to practice with including found objects\, items that have been used in magical workings\, and those thought to be haunted or otherwise attached to a spirit. You are welcome to bring an item share\, so long as you are comfortable with it being handled by others. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \n\n\nSterling is passionate about helping others find inspiration and guidance through tarot\, communication with spirits\, and old-timey folk magic. \n\n\nSterling has been reading tarot since 1995 and began offering readings and teaching professionally in 2013. She doesn’t shy away from the trope of fortune teller. Sterling specializes in future-based readings. She’s had the ability to connect with spirits of the dead and the natural world since childhood and has been practicing folk magic since 2014. She is particularly influenced by her practice of and studies in the Scandinavian tradition of Trolldom. Sterling’s spirit communication style is a unique blend of classic mediumship techniques\, folk magic\, and paranormal investigation strategies. \nSterling also had a 20-year career as a professional advocate for survivors of crime prior to and holds a Master’s Degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership. It expresses the experiences that northern peoples have had with the natural world for millennia. The surviving medieval literature on Old Norse mythology has retained much of this perspective\, especially in the Eddic poems Vafthrudnismal and Grimnismal. We will read these poems and analyze them as expressions of animistic relationality with the natural world. \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nMathias Nordvig has a PhD in Old Norse literature with focus on Old Norse mythology. Students will be introduced to how cloth\, knots\, and thread are utilized in Nordic folk magic and divination\, and they will also learn about the spirits and stories behind these arts. Participants will come away with knowledge of traditional folk magic methods\, the symbolism behind folk embroidery\, the stories of old feminine magics\, the use of fiber and fiber tools in seiðr\, the connection between fiber arts and life itself\, and more.\nThe practices of twisting\, knotting\, and weaving date back to the Neolithic period and are some of our oldest technologies; participating in this work helps to connect us to many generations of ancestors. Most wisdom cultures have systems for deepening perception of the natural world both inside and outside of us. Utiseta\, or “sitting out” is one such custom found in northern folk traditions. Runes could be used as any letter system to write curses and spells\, but the letters themselves also contained magical powers. In this class\, we will learn about how the runes were used for magic\, and how they expressed a complete idea about the cosmological order of our existence. \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nMathias Nordvig has a PhD in Old Norse literature with focus on Old Norse mythology. He teaches subjects on Old Norse literature and culture\, Nordic witchcraft and pre-Christian religion\, and Arctic cultures at the University of Colorado-Boulder. I will share a keynote presentation on folk sauna culture- history\, rituals\, practices\, healing techniques\, folklore and more. From the celestial elves\, known for their light\, enchantment\, and occasional blood sucking – to the surly & often deadly trolls that haunt majestic mountains. What sets these supernatural beings apart from each other – and from the average human ghost? How does the etiquette expected of humans’ interaction with them vary? Are the smith-master dwarves truly antisocial\, compared to the domestic tomte who frequents the homestead? What stellar bodies are sacred to trolls\, or are the stars solely the domain of elves? This presentation will explore the answers to these questions\, as well as how these extraordinary beings are approached(& avoided) in Scandinavia – including via the lens of the Norse folk magic & sorcery of Trolldom.\n\nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \n\n\nRose is a sorceress\, seer\, and trollkvinna. People tend to stick to herbs and spices for their practice. \nThis class will introduce the three most popular herbs used by Swedish ancestors of the Tradition but will also introduce the three most popular in each of the following categories: trees\, roots\, resins\, seeds\, fungi\, berries/fruits\, grasses and lichens/mosses. Andrea’s style of reading cards could be described as pragmatic and deeply rooted in tradition\, influenced by a true reverence for the sibyls of the past. As a teacher\, Andrea has both an academic and scholarly approach to the way that she presents her classes as well as sharing from her experiences and gnosis as a professional reader. She considers the Tarot to be a book of esoteric mysteries and has spent years of her life in studying and peeling back its many layers to share the knowledge and wisdom embedded in every card. \nReese Quinn (she/they) is a tarot and astrology reader and what they lovingly call a practical witch. They have a strong awareness of the crossroads between astrology\, cartomancy\, and elemental practices. You’ll note that Reese embraces their queer\, intersectional identities when both teaching and reading. Reese has been a reader at Ritualcravt for over two years and has studied with well-known witches like Lindsay Mack and Pam Grossman and well-respected teachers locally in Denver. Esoteric blacksmithing folklore and practice\, and how traditions of esoteric blacksmithing incorporated many aspects of other traditions. \n\nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \n\n\n\nMarcus R. McCoy holds a degree in Transpersonal Anthropology with a focus on the ethnobotany of magical plants. He is the progenitor of Bioregional Animism. Marcus has also been published in Verdant Gnosis Volume 1\, and is one of three editors of the book series\, and is the co-founder and organizer of the viridis genii symposium. He is alchemical practitioner\, studying with Robert Bartlett and integrates his knowledge of lab alchemy into his work in esoteric metallurgy\, He is also an established blacksmith and metal artist with special interest focusing on the occult art of herbal quenches working within the context of alchemical philosophy and folk magic. His smithy is called Troll Cunning Forge\, and he produces custom made occult iron work for the occult community. Marcus is also a teacher of folk magic and has ongoing classes on the Botany of the Dead as well as the folklore of the magical projectile. Ancestral practices form the foundation of Trolldom Spirit Work to reconnect to Spirit and our sense of a natural home during our lifetime. \nThe dead are also regarded to have a great influence\, both good and bad\, on our bodies and minds. In this workshop you will learn the basic practices and procedures for establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries between the living and the dead for both to thrive together. \nThis class will introduce folk-necromantic terminology and classical Trolldom approaches in communicating\, relating and dealing with the dead on an everyday basis. \n\nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \n\n\nJohannes B. Gårdbäck is the author of “Trolldom – Spells and Methods of the Norse Folkmagic Tradition”\, (Y.I.P.P.I.E\, 2014). He is an internationally recognized teacher with more than 30 years of experience as a professional folk healer and a folk magic practitioner. Today he runs Urhall\, a physical and online school of Trolldom and Scandinavian Folk wisdom in his home village of Hedekas\, Sweden where he lives with his wife\, two daughters and a dog called Bob.\n\n*The Northern Folk Traditions Conference is a weeklong virtual conference taking place June 2-8! Registration closes one hour prior to class starting. \n  \nAs so many are drawn to divination\, even more so\, I think\, in troubled times\, I’d like to offer a creative way to read your cards\, using the language of storytelling and fairy tales/folklore. This is a system that I created last year that provides a new way to create spreads to read\, so you can use your own cards\, and any deck should work. In other words\, the cards themselves do not have to be fairy-tale themed\, as just the questions/subtopics are! I have chosen the structural system from the work of a famous narratologist to provide the basis for the options for the card spreads\, and I’ll teach you his system first and apply it to how it enhances the reading of a familiar fairy tales. From that\, I’ll show you how to take the elements of his system and instead of applying them to fairy tales\, to apply them to tarot readings that you create. You’ll be able to customize your spread to your question and needs by using the language and organization of the system\, creating a wealth of possibilities and ways to focus your reading. The system will provide hundreds of thousands of possible spreads\, all based on your imagination\, and will reinforce how much life itself\, and the events therein\, are a story waiting to be told. Please have your tarot cards at hand for class because we will be doing some practice spreads. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. She is the author of Beyond His Dark Materials\, the editor of Fairy Tales Reimagined\, and co-editor of The Artemis Archetype in Popular Culture. The Series Editor of Tales from Fiddler’s Green\, she also occasionally publishes creative fiction. She is currently studying the Bardic Course in Druidry from OBOD. She maintains Mellie’s Grove\, a certified NWF backyard wildlife habitat that is home to a rescued and small stabilized cat family and all manner of wildlife.

We will learn about the three main branches of tasseomancy\, and at the end\, we will hold a practicum on how to do a tea leaf reading! We will be diving into the deep and rich history of the modalities of the natural world\, learning about each modality used in this work. Please come prepared with a teacup\, saucer\, and loose-leaf black tea for the lecture and practicum. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nGabriel Varzalyi is a biracial Virginia-born folk practitioner\, a devotee to his ancestors\, spirits of nature\, and the God and Goddess of his mother and father. He is a seer\, diviner\, spiritual medium\, and conjurer trained in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans. His practice has always been dedicated to the community\, working in local spiritual shops in New Orleans Louisiana\, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania\, and Denver Colorado. Dedicated to his spiritual work for over a decade\, while also assisting the community in his legal profession through his daily life\, Gabriel sees the balance that both the spiritual world and material world have in the progression of someone’s life. May it be through a limpieza espiritual or the making of protection spikes for one’s home\, money gris-gris for the gambler or investment broker\, or for a love and domination spell for young women wanting to attract their lovers of choice\, Gabriel would lend a hand for the ones true to their heart\, and honesty in Spirit’s eyes. Being born from a lineage of witches and orthodox priests\, he understands the differences and similarities of the messages that come to pass with each person\, allowing for a different type of magical work to occur. Gabriel is also a writer for Witches Magazine under his mundane alias\, an independent magazine based in the United Kingdom. An adventurous spirit\, Gabriel feels and hears the call of spirit through the wind\, through winding southern brooks\, and on high mountain peaks\, observing the simple magics that each of us cherishes in our everyday lives.
