This workshop will not only provide the practical steps by which a unique home for Hekate can be created\, but will include three new spells written by Jack himself to enliven\, enchant\, and consecrate it. In doing so we will explore the sorcerous technologies of Roman Egypt\, and delve into the fascinating principles of Hekatean conjurations from late antiquity. Registration closes one hour prior to class starting. \nThis online class will begin with a look at Saint Expedite from a historical basis\, i.e.\, what we know vs. what we don’t really know and where there is variation from tradition to tradition. There will be brief coverage of the various related traditions worldwide and how Expedite is called and utilized before we move on to the traditions most familiar within the United States as they relate to New Orleans Voudo\, conjure\, the deep south\, and to a much lesser extent Appalachia. Attention will be paid\, of course\, to the decidedly Christian origins of Saint Expedite\, though students will be encouraged to see beyond that limitation. Care will be placed to limit the amount of Christianity used\, where appropriate\, in an effort to encourage those who might avoid the power of the Saints due to trauma surrounding organized religion\, abuse\, and the church’s misuse of sacred power. This will set the foundation for the practicum\, where students will learn about altars\, offerings\, statues and prayer cards\, incense\, oils\, candles\, prayers\, devotions\, novenas\, spells\, talismans\, and the materia magicka associated with Saint Expedite. This two hour workshop aims to deliver the student not only the information needed to begin to work with Saint Expedite but the confidence to approach him immediately and begin a beneficial magickal relationship as soon as they get home! \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nWelburn Hiram Kemp is a proud Appalachian\, steeped and studied in the time honored traditions of folklore\, conjure\, and faith healing passed down through generations in the hollers of Eastern Kentucky. I’ll share my personal story about my relationships with plants and the benefits of working spiritually with them. You’ll be encouraged to share about your already established friendships with the plant community – and it’s totally okay if this is new to you and you’re just discovering the possibility of a new plant ally. Through deep imaginative dream space\, you’ll be guided to connect with a plant\, talk with and feel into them; asking questions and receiving answers. I’ll introduce several practices to help engage with your plant beloved. And we’ll make some plant potions to help open the path of deepening into the numinous language of plants. This class will focus on a few basic yet powerful poetic forms with an eye towards making the writing itself accessible and easy for a beginner. We will cover poems as short as 2-line types and a few longer forms as well as both rhyming and non-rhyming styles. You’ll get to see lots of examples and you’ll get the opportunity in the workshop to practice in a safe and supportive environment. You will leave class with some ideas and samples you can use to enhance your spellwork. Class is open to beginners to writing poetry as well as those with a little experience seeking further guidance. \nPlease jot down some ideas for subjects of spellwork of special interest to bring to the workshop with you. Taught by the Series Editor of Tales from Fiddler’s Green. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \nThis class will guide you through some sustainable and responsible ways to work with animals and animal materia in your magical practice. We will touch on a bit of animal symbolism\, mythology\, and energies\, how to sustainably and legally source animal materia (if you wish to do so)\, and how to practically incorporate animal magic into your own magical practice. \nThis class will not follow the typical guides to animal magic. Jess takes a more scientific approach\, one of correlation\, study\, and research. Often\, we turn to books and the writings of others when we are new to a subject\, which is a very important way to begin learning and start building a framework for your practice\, however during this lesson\, we will dive deeper. We will work on how to more heavily rely on our own intuition\, observation\, and personal experiences in order to develop meaningful relationships to the animal world. \nMost of us live in urban environments\, surrounded by concrete and landscaped city parks\, and it may seem almost impossible to find the truly natural world in our surroundings. There is some truth to this\, the contemporary world feels so disconnected from the wild that our ancestors knew. But honestly\, nature surrounds us\, all we need is a shift of perspective. Sit outside anywhere on a nice day\, even deep in the city\, and you will find resilience in nature. Plants growing through concrete\, beetles dutifully searching for food\, and stray cats or dogs surviving despite it all. It is so wonderful and healing to get deep into the mountains of our state\, hearing the calls of native birds that sound exotic to city dwellers\, or witnessing a family of deer beyond the trees along a trail… but there is something equally as wondrous about watching city crows scavenge from dumpsters behind a restaurant\, or butterflies and bees pollinating the carefully curated gardens in a city square. These are the lessons that we need right now. We are all dutifully surviving in the circumstances of the contemporary world at this moment\, and the animals that have been nearly pushed out by human civilization have been doing this for much longer. \nFollowing the lecture\, we will be practicing our observational and intuitive skills by connecting with animal materia first-hand. You will also be provided with several materials to create your own charm bag to honor and harness the spirit of the silk moth\, working with the energies of metamorphosis and adaptability. Animal\, herbal\, and mineral materials will be provided for you to choose from. It is not required\, but feel free to bring materials from your personal collection to add to your own bag. \nIt is highly recommended to bring a journal\, notebook\, or piece of paper and a writing utensil. This will be helpful in lecture\, and we will also be completing an exercise prior to crafting our charm bag that will require writing down your thoughts. \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nJess is a Denver-based artist who creates small sculptures and jewelry using elements of nature.\nJess creates imaginative miniature worlds honoring elements of nature and science. These sculptures contain magic in the form of preserved insects\, bones\, stones\, moss\, and plants.
