Registration closes one hour prior to class beginning. \n  \nAncestral Magic is a two-part class formulated to supplement and expand on ideas within “Ancestral Magic” (2025)\, including sharing more in-depth experiences that Frankie has experienced in their reconnective journey\, folk magic and tradition as a method of reconnective work\, accountability in community\, and learning about culture and ancestors from an Italian-American viewpoint. \nWhen we reconnect\, we have to center accountability in reconnection. What does it look like to remove problematic traditions and rituals and engage with them in a new way? What does it mean to establish community\, find teachers and respectfully approaching cultures you aren’t a part of? What are the red flags as we build and find community\, and how can we be a better ancestor moving forward? While our first class looks at the beginning steps of reconnection\, Part 2 builds upon the ideas of ancestral magic and work through the lens of a reconstruction\, respect\, and understanding our relation to not just diasporic culture and community\, but ancestral culture and community. \nPART 1: Ancestral Magic: Reconnection & Learning from the Folk\, Nov. 8\, 6:30-8-30pm \nWhat is reconnection? This series takes place on Nov. 8\, 6:30-8-30pm\, and Nov. 22\, 6:30-8:30pm. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nFrankie Castanea\, also known as Chaotic Witch Aunt\, is a practicing folk witch\, animist\, Italian American folk practitioner\, and spirit worker.  They have been on a journey of reconnection to culture and ancestral practices for almost five years now\, a practicing witch and diviner for almost a decade. Within this\, they have found a passion for learning and teaching Italian-American ways of being\, animism\, ancestors\, and spirit relationships. They have and continue to be a student of Lisa Fazio and Mary Beth Bonfiglio\, and have\, in the past\, learned from Austin Toney of Cat and Cauldron. They learn from being in community with other Italian-Americans and folk practitioners\, their own spirits\, and are driven by their ancestors in almost all things they do\, sharing their ways of reconnection and reconstruction via Instagram\, Youtube\, Patreon and their blog\, Chaotic Folk Magic\, through their website (chaoticwitchaunt.com). They run a small online shop of ancestral and folk magic guided wares\, believes in the power of the color red\, and reads tarot\, Italian playing cards\, and offers professional spell consultations at Ritualcravt in Wheat Ridge\, Colorado. They are the author of two books\, “Spells for Change” (2021)\, and their upcoming book “Ancestral Magic” (2025).

We will discuss fibers and plant pigments before diving into a variety of botanicals and design options. Using the bundle dye method\, we will steam our creations to infuse the pigments. No experience is necessary\, all students receive one cotton bandana along with guidance and plants to create your own unique pattern. Students will take home their finished bandanas at the end of class and have access to a Plant Dyeing 101 booklet to guide them in future projects. In fact\, fairy tale critic Maria Tatar in The Hard Facts of the Grimms Fairy Tales explains that the Grimms’ tales feature 3 distinct types of “ogres”: “beasts and monsters”\, “social deviants”\, and “women”\, with women (perhaps unsurprisingly) making up the largest category. In this group are witches and wise women\, mothers’-in-law\, and stepmothers\, all of whom walk a supposedly villainous path and are cast as so-called “evil” characters. However\, contemporary fairy tale writers have deconstructed this pattern. This class will offer a sampling of modern-day witches and wise women in fairy tales by introducing participants to stories that feature witches in more complex\, nuanced\, and powerful roles. Learn all about how these depictions reinforce the immense self-sufficiency and resiliency of matriarchy.\nThose interested in and/or taking the class should reach out to the instructor (susanredingtonbobby@professorofwords.com) to get a list of links of literary works so they have time to read them before attending. The class will cover a brief history of the classic fairy tale witch and then move to a discussion of the changing contemporary views\, with time available for discussion of the works provided. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. This meet-up is designed to be a facilitated space for those interested in tarot\, not a “class.” There will be two facilitators\, current readers here at Ritualcravt – Andrea Carla and Reese Quinn. \nTarot meet-ups will start and end with reflections on the past month’s tarot pulls\, a themed topic discussion\, and then will be driven by you! Andrea’s style of reading cards could be described as pragmatic and deeply rooted in tradition\, influenced by a true reverence for the sibyls of the past. As a teacher\, Andrea has both an academic and scholarly approach to the way that she presents her classes as well as sharing from her experiences and gnosis as a professional reader. She considers the Tarot to be a book of esoteric mysteries and has spent years of her life in studying and peeling back its many layers to share the knowledge and wisdom embedded in every card. \nReese Quinn (she/they) is a tarot and astrology reader and what they lovingly call a practical witch. They have a strong awareness of the crossroads between astrology\, cartomancy\, and elemental practices. You’ll note that Reese embraces their queer\, intersectional identities when both teaching and reading. Reese has been a reader at Ritualcravt for over two years and has studied with well-known witches like Lindsay Mack and Pam Grossman and well-respected teachers locally in Denver. Registration closes one hour prior to class beginning. \n  \nAlongside the summer ancestor festival of Obon\, Oshogatsu is one of the most sacred of Japanese animist and magical traditions.  During the Japanese New Year\, we welcome Toshigami into our homes.  Traditions vary as to whether Toshigami is the kami of the New Year\, grain or our collective ancestors\, but the principle remains that we must prepare our homes for their arrival.  In this hybrid class\, we will cover the history of this sacred holiday and the rituals associated with it\, including cleansing and purifying\, cord cutting\, sacred decor\, traditional foods\, and the closing of the spiritual container that is held during this time.  This class will include a small tasting of osechi ryori (New Years dishes).  For those especially sensitive\, the dishes will be separated to not cross-contaminate allergens.  Allergens: fish\, shellfish\, soy\, kelp\, egg\, chestnuts\, legumes. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nAkemi Tsutsui-Kunitake is a visual artist\, karate-ka and creator of Live Deliciously. Based in Denver\, her work is informed by her identity as a third and fourth-generation (sansei-han and yonsei)\, mixed-race Japanese American. Her artwork blends themes of Japanese folklore with Western mysticism. She is inspired by the intersectionality of cultural tradition\, ancestral wisdom and modern identity. She is a lifelong student of Shotokan karate-do under the instruction of her father\, Isao Gary Tsutsui\, at Colorado Budokan. \nAkemi has also been fortunate to train with masters of other karate styles in California\, Hawaii and Japan. As karate embodies so many elements that are integral to the Japanese American experience\, she describes karate as her ethnic and spiritual identity in motion. With a formal education in Ethnic Studies\, Akemi has worked in the fields of culturally specific education\, advocacy and holistic health. She has continued her studies through courses on Japanese energetic healing\, Shinto\, deep ancestral work and radical community care. Akemi is a frequent collaborator with the Japanese Arts Network as a Cultural Consultant and artistic partner.

In fact\, through the centuries\, tarot-astro connections have wandered throughout the sky\, pairing the planets and constellations in completely different ways. We’ll look at several key decks-of-old – Etteilla\, Wirth\, Falconnier\, and Picard – for unique astro-associations\, perspectives\, insights and knowledge in each. Even for those of us who love the cozy time of colder temperatures and sun setting earlier\, with tea and books and various hobbies\, the holiday season itself can ensnare us in feelings of isolation\, depression\, sadness\, and grief\, especially if there are associations with this time of year in terms of past traumas or missing those who are no longer with us to share these times. I would like to try to help people in dealing with these difficult emotions by considering the healing magic of traveling through labyrinths. \nIn this class\, you will discover how the labyrinth serves as a symbol of the journey inward\, leading us to the center of our being where we confront our shadows and emerge wiser and more self-aware. We will examine both the Cretan and Greek depictions of Ariadne and consider ways we can connect with her energy and call upon her as a guide when we are deep in shadow work. We will consider visualizations and simple prompts to help you identify a place in your life where you will benefit from “walking” a labyrinth to its center and back. I will also offer ritual suggestions\, as well as practical exercises for incorporating labyrinths into your daily life for spiritual growthand healing. Class is taught from a trauma-informed perspective. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. As a Jupiter-ruled harbinger of opportunity and change\, the Wheel asks us to surrender to the ride destiny has placed us on and celebrate growth\, even when its terms feel untethering. Join us to discuss the meaning and symbolism of this card\, as well as figure out its place in your own personal narrative. This class will feature a 1 hour lecture on the card itself\, followed by a 1 hour workshop of Tarot spreads and astrological techniques to consider when approaching the Wheel of Fortune. We are seeking self-care\, community\, and creative expression in a group that will welcome and encourage conversation and connection\, though there is no requirement to speak or to even have your screen on if you’d rather be anonymous and just “be” with us! \nLet’s face it\, our world demands constant productivity often for the sake of others. I often think that we are led to believe “how can we craft at a time like this?” But this is precisely the moment to engage in what makes us feel happy and at peace. All skill levels and craft mediums are welcome in these gatherings that will be like book clubs\, but for crafts.
