SUMMARY:{IN PERSON} OBON: THE JAPANESE DAY OF THE DEAD
DESCRIPTION:Please read class description in its entirety. This for is for IN PERSON registration only. \nTICKETS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE. \nClass fees are non transferable\, please note that we stick to the student agreements clicked on during registration. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nFestivals to honor the ancestors span cultures and spiritual practices throughout the ages. Many of these festivals include the visitation of spirits to the earthly realm to visit relatives. Obon is one of these festivals and is among the most sacred and widely practiced Japanese summer traditions. In this class we will look at the history of the festival\, the rituals practiced and how it appears in other East Asian cultures. One of the primary rituals of Obon is to dance in community to welcome the spirits of the dead. Together we will learn a common Obon dance to celebrate our ancestors. \n  \nAkemi Tsutsui-Kunitake is a visual artist\, karate-ka and creator of Live Deliciously. Based in Denver\, her work is informed by her identity as a third and fourth-generation (sansei-han and yonsei)\, mixed-race Japanese American. Her artwork blends themes of Japanese folklore with Western mysticism. She is inspired by the intersectionality of cultural tradition\, ancestral wisdom and modern identity. She is a lifelong student of Shotokan karate-do under the instruction of her father\, Isao Gary Tsutsui\, at Colorado Budokan.\nAkemi has also been fortunate to train with masters of other karate styles in California\, Hawaii and Japan. As karate embodies so many elements that are integral to the Japanese American experience\, she describes karate as her ethnic and spiritual identity in motion. With a formal education in Ethnic Studies\, Akemi has worked in the fields of culturally specific education\, advocacy and holistic health. She has continued her studies through courses on Japanese energetic healing\, Shinto\, deep ancestral work and radical community care. Akemi is a frequent collaborator with the Japanese Arts Network as a Cultural Consultant and artistic partner.

SUMMARY:{IN PERSON} THE TRANCE-WORK OF SHAMANIC JOURNEYING
DESCRIPTION:Please read class description in its entirety. This for is for IN PERSON registration only. \nTICKETS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE. \nClass fees are non transferable\, please note that we stick to the student agreements clicked on during registration. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \n  \nWe each have a personal direct-line to spirit. Journeying is a means of reawakening and accessing it.\nThe ability to intentionally shift into a trance state and commune with our spirit-plane helpers is an asset to many spiritual paths\, and the shamanic journey is one very dependable means of doing that – for guidance\, healing\, and the outright joy of direct connection with Spirit.\nIn this gathering\, we’ll play with the rudiments of drum-driven journeying to begin meeting the personal allies that live in that place of spirit. These are the spiritual practices of animism\, and this is an empowering path! \nPlease bring/wear:
— Note-taking materials\n— Comfortable clothes\, if your choose to lay down\n— A bandana/scarf eye-covering (for maximum darkness)\n— Optional: your own small blanket or yoga pad \nRenna Shesso is a shamanic practitioner\, witch\, and author. Her shamanic path took root in the late 1980s\, moving through intensive studies with Sandra Ingerman. Other teachers have fed the fires of Scandinavian and other ancestral explorations. Our relatives in natural world – plants and sky\, animals and elements – remain her most essential and direct teachers.
