Registration closes one hour prior to class beginning. \n  \nWe are holding a monthly gathering for those who wish to work on their crafts (knitting\, crocheting\, stitching\, jewelry-making\, writing\, drawing\, you name it!) in the shared space of a zoom call. We are seeking self-care\, community\, and creative expression in a group that will welcome and encourage conversation and connection\, though there is no requirement to speak or to even have your screen on if you’d rather be anonymous and just “be” with us! \nLet’s face it\, our world demands constant productivity often for the sake of others. I often think that we are led to believe “how can we craft at a time like this?” But this is precisely the moment to engage in what makes us feel happy and at peace. We will reclaim the energy and beauty of crafting for the sake of personal fulfillment and relaxation. All skill levels and craft mediums are welcome in these gatherings that will be like book clubs\, but for crafts. We will set a theme for each session so you can consider it or even journal on it before attending\, and in our meetings\, you will have an opportunity to share with others\, if you choose\, while I will facilitate. Note that these are not lectures or classes but more like free-form meetings in a safe space\, with 3 price levels so you can choose what works best for you economically. \nNovember’s Theme:\nCrafting Identities: think about all the various types of crafts you’ve engaged in and how they relate to various parts of your personal identity. Have you noticed any patterns in your life in terms of when you began to engage in different crafts and what was going on in your personal life? How much does your work with your craft(s) stand out as a major part of who you are? \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. She is the author of Beyond His Dark Materials\, the editor of Fairy Tales Reimagined\, and co-editor of The Artemis Archetype in Popular Culture. The Series Editor of Tales from Fiddler’s Green\, she also occasionally publishes creative fiction. She is currently studying the Bardic Course in Druidry from OBOD. She maintains Mellie’s Grove\, a certified NWF backyard wildlife habitat that is home to a rescued and small stabilized cat family and all manner of wildlife.

Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n  \nWhether you are reading for yourself or a friend\, the art of tarot reading can be fun\, powerful\, and insightful. This 6-hour\, “drink from the firehose” workshop will explore all 78 cards of the tarot. We will go over the cards’ upright and reversed meanings and practice throwing spreads. All students will walk out with the 2nd revised edition of Sterling Moon’s Tarot 101 zine and the ability to start reading tarot regularly right off the bat! \nPlease bring a notebook\, writing utensil\, and a tarot deck based on the Smith-Waite-Rider. Have water and snacks if you need them\, as our breaks will be short. \nAnticipated schedule \n12-2 – Divination basics & Major Arcana of the Tarot \n2-2:15 – Break \n2:15 – 4:15 – Minor Arcana of the Tarot \n4:15-4:30 – Break \n4:30 – 5:30 – The Tarot Court & Mechanics of Readings \n5:30 – 6 – Practice! \nPlease note: These teachings are based on the Smith-Waite-Rider deck\, and that is what we will cover in class. There are many decks that are fun variations on the Smith-Waite-Rider\, so don’t feel obligated to get the classic version if you find a different one that really speaks to you. There are decks available to buy at Ritualcravt if you need one. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \n\n\nSterling is passionate about helping others find inspiration and guidance through tarot\, communication with spirits\, and old-timey folk magic. \n\n\nSterling has been reading tarot since 1995 and began offering readings and teaching professionally in 2013. She doesn’t shy away from the trope of fortune teller. Sterling specializes in future-based readings. She’s had the ability to connect with spirits of the dead and the natural world since childhood and has been practicing folk magic since 2014. She is particularly influenced by her practice of and studies in the Scandinavian tradition of Trolldom. Sterling’s spirit communication style is a unique blend of classic mediumship techniques\, folk magic\, and paranormal investigation strategies. \nSterling also had a 20-year career as a professional advocate for survivors of crime prior to and holds a Master’s Degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership. Her work as an advocate is a lifelong calling.

What does it look like to remove problematic traditions and rituals and engage with them in a new way? What does it mean to establish community\, find teachers and respectfully approaching cultures you aren’t a part of? What are the red flags as we build and find community\, and how can we be a better ancestor moving forward? While our first class looks at the beginning steps of reconnection\, Part 2 builds upon the ideas of ancestral magic and work through the lens of a reconstruction\, respect\, and understanding our relation to not just diasporic culture and community\, but ancestral culture and community. \nPART 1: Ancestral Magic: Reconnection & Learning from the Folk\, Nov. 8\, 6:30-8-30pm \nWhat is reconnection? Why do we reconnect? This class explores what reconnection to community\, ancestors\, and more mean through various methods including exploration of homeland and diaspora\, learning from the folk and folk magic\, ancestral veneration and different sets of ancestors\, connecting to other ancestral spirits and embodying your ancestral practice. Within this\, they have found a passion for learning and teaching Italian-American ways of being\, animism\, ancestors\, and spirit relationships. They have and continue to be a student of Lisa Fazio and Mary Beth Bonfiglio\, and have\, in the past\, learned from Austin Toney of Cat and Cauldron. They learn from being in community with other Italian-Americans and folk practitioners\, their own spirits\, and are driven by their ancestors in almost all things they do\, sharing their ways of reconnection and reconstruction via Instagram\, Youtube\, Patreon and their blog\, Chaotic Folk Magic\, through their website (chaoticwitchaunt.com). They run a small online shop of ancestral and folk magic guided wares\, believes in the power of the color red\, and reads tarot\, Italian playing cards\, and offers professional spell consultations at Ritualcravt in Wheat Ridge\, Colorado.
