Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time. \n\n     By whatever name – trance\, shamanic journeying\, inner council work – if you’re already experienced with drum-driven journey practices\, please join us for ceremony\, journeying\, explorations\, drumming\, and community. Hone your skills and visit with your Guides\, within a circle of like-minded\, supportive humans. These practices – deeply personal though they are – were born and flourished within communities – humans gathering together in united energies and intentions\, through hundreds of generations\, in all times and places. When we circle together\, we’re a continuing part of that. \nNot a class\, but a circle\, we’ll generally have time for several journeys: first on a theme of your own choosing\, then others with varying intentions\, applications\, and styles of working. Registration closes one hour prior to class beginning. \n  \nIn this introduction to the study of fairy tales\, I’ll be covering basics of the European tradition\nwith an emphasis on some of the different literary figures of the age and the way they collected\, shaped\, and promoted fairy tales. Because the early tales which came from multiple tellers were created for adults by adults\, sex and violence often were integral parts\, either increased or toned down based on the tellers. Literary criticism\, especially different types of critical theory\, will be explained in an accessible way to help you discover different ways to read the same text based on the lens you apply and the questions you ask (a bonus is that you can apply the same kinds of lenses to other works you read!). Finally\, you’ll learn how to approach a set of variants that provide different versions of the same core story (such as Cinderella or Little Red Riding Hood) in order to see how variants change with differences in time periods\, the geographical area\, and the teller’s unique characteristics\, such as their age\, gender\, and spiritual leanings.\nCopies of variants of tales will be distributed to you during the class. \nTwo sliding scale options for tickets. \n  \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR \nSusan Redington Bobby\, the founder of Professor of Words\, LLC\, is an online teacher\, a freelance editor\, a writing mentor\, and a tutor. Her specialty is being able to read people on a deeper level through their writing\, and she has recently completed a certificate course on integrative somatic trauma therapy.  She is a retired professor of English with expertise in fairy tales\, adolescent literature\, goddess archetypes\, magical realism\, creative writing\, and film studies. She is the author of Beyond His Dark Materials\, the editor of Fairy Tales Reimagined\, and co-editor of The Artemis Archetype in Popular Culture. The Series Editor of Tales from Fiddler’s Green\, she also occasionally publishes creative fiction. She is currently studying the Bardic Course in Druidry from OBOD. She maintains Mellie’s Grove\, a certified NWF backyard wildlife habitat that is home to a rescued and small stabilized cat family and all manner of wildlife.

I will share a keynote presentation on the springtide\, and discuss important timings and folk traditions we can observe in the Scandinavian diaspora. We will go over tree and plant traditions\, Påsk and other holy days\, spring cleansings\, fertility magic\, and other ancestral practices we can utilize to bring the fresh energy of the Spring into our modern lives on the lands we live on today. \nYOUR INSTRUCTOR: \nMissy Johanna Rhysing is an American woman practicing Nordic folk traditions in Denver\, CO and Mpls\, MN. Her people hail from Scandinavia\, Bohemia/Czech Republic\, France and England. She places great importance on working with our ancestral root cultures as a means of reclaiming and reweaving folk magic and medicine to improve our lives and our relationships with the lands we live on today.\nMissy’s trainings include Trolldom\, Nordic spirituality and animism\, Swedish massage\, past life regression\, meditation\, shiatsu\, tattooing\, folk herbal and nutritional support\, and more. Missy facilitates community sauna ceremonies and is passionate about sauna tradition and culture. She has been offered the name Mästerinna as a tradition teacher in Trolldom\, and holds that close to her heart with great honor.
