{IN PERSON} Talismanic Embroidery for Clothing and Wearables

This class is IN PERSON. TICKETS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE. Class fees are non transferable, we stick to the student agreements agreed upon during registration. Please ensure you are able to attend the scheduled class time.

The power of embroidery to cast spells and carry intention has been recognized across many cultures and throughout the pages of history. Become a part of that time-honored tradition and learn how to imbue the things that you wear every day with symbols for calming, power, protection, healing, abundance, and more. No sewing or embroidery experience is necessary. This class is open to the curious and experienced stitch witches alike.

In this hands on workshop you will:
-Learn a brief history of magical embroidery as utilized by peoples across the world
-Practice hand embroidery basics including a stitch sampler
-Gain practical knowledge for embroidering on clothing and wearables
-Discuss colors, placement, and symbology for desired magical effect
-Receive guidance in creating and stitching a talisman of your own

Please bring a garment you would like to stitch on (if you have one). The easiest items of clothing to work with have an even weave and little to no stretch, but please bring whatever you have. All other materials will be provided.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Catalena Eskey (they/them) calls themselves a recovering perfectionist. This has strongly informed the ways that they teach, make art, and move through the world. In early adulthood, chronic illness forced them to confront their deeply held stories about motivation and self-worth. Now, as a yoga teacher, witch, artist, and human living with disability, both their life and work are a constant reminder of the need to slow down.

Catalena’s artistic and spell work primarily explores fiber manipulation. Though they love many techniques, the tactile experience of pulling a needle and thread is one process that is especially satisfying and meditative for them. They view crafting as a form of divine creativity and a place to practice dreaming, play, and UN-doing.

They are inspired by the earth, color, and small things that feel magical, or that give respite to spirit. They often work with themes of nature, death, rebirth, and vulnerability. However, they also think that it is incredibly important to make things that don’t have a profound meaning beyond the joy of creating them.

In this productivity-focused world, taking time to pause and introspect is a form of resistance. Catalena believes magic is most alive in things that encourage people to reflect on our interconnectedness and inherent worth.
