Build your herbal apothecary and learn how to craft a medicinal salve for troubled skin, minor first-aid needs, and everyday care. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the idea of herbs of place and how familiar, locally abundant plants can become part of a practical home apothecary. Together, we’ll work with herbs such as calendula, plantain, yarrow, lavender, and other skin-supportive botanicals while learning how to choose plants based on their medicinal action. We’ll touch base on infusing herbal oils, explore solar and gentle heat infusion methods, and learn how beeswax transforms an infused oil into a useful topical salve or lip balm! Along the way, we’ll consider what it means to practice bioregional herbalism: noticing the plants that grow around us, learning their stories and uses, and building relationships with the landscapes we call home. We’ll also discuss thoughtful harvesting, basic formulation, and how to adjust the texture of a salve for different uses. This is practical folk herbalism with a touch of kitchen witchery, rooted in observation, relationship, and the medicine of place. Each participant will leave with a handcrafted herbal salve and the foundational knowledge to continue making infused oils and salves at home.
